From The Chair

This past weekend, the 23^rd LD was at Poulsbo’s Raab Park for its annual June gathering. The always delicious BBQ was supplied by McCloud’s in Bremerton.  The BBQ was accompanied by salads, side dishes and desserts thanks to our LD members.

Candidates and elected officials who were there were given an opportunity to speak to the crowd. It was great to see our 23^rd LD State Senator Drew Hansen , our County Commissioner Christine Rolfes and our county officials County Prosecutor Chad Enright, County Clerk David Lewis, County Treasurer Pete Boissonneau and County Auditor Paul Andrews.  They schmoozed with the crowd and underscored how fortunate we are to have them as our elected officials. Greg Nance, 23^rd LD State Representative, was unable to make it but he sent a message which was read to the crowd. Rep Nance was at the Suquamish Casino attending the signing of a government-to-government agreement between the Suquamish Tribe and US Navy. This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)  was the first of its kind agreement. Kudos to both the Suquamish Tribe and the US Navy for reaching this agreement!!

As a reminder, our LD will be starting its endorsement process soon. Our endorsement will focus on our local LD positions initially. Endorsement questionnaires will be sent to candidates. These will then be reviewed by the LD E-Board for recommendation to the LD. The LD will be able to vote on whether to endorse or approve any of the candidates. In accordance with our bylaws, if there are two or more qualified Democratic candidates then only an approval can be given, not an endorsement.

The primary is Tuesday, August 4 with ballots mailed by July 17. Thanks to the US Supreme Court, our state rules are still valid.  So, make sure you vote and use the ballot drop boxes to ensure your ballot is received and counted.

Our state allows people to register to vote and vote on Election Day so if you haven’t become a registered voter, you can do so now, either online or in person.

The General Election is November 3 and ballots are mailed by October 16. Please contact our county’s auditor’s office with any questions you have about voting. They are a group of very helpful people!

This is an important election year for our state judiciary. With thanks to Luke Garrett, here is a link for folks to check out who is running for our state supreme court positions and inform themselves on the candidates:

We are heading into the beginning of our election season and we need to get ourselves ready and focused on what we can do to make sure our Democratic candidates get elected. While the 23rd is considered a strong Democratic LD, we cannot take that for granted. It is our hard work that keeps it that way.

It also means we can share that power with our fellow LDs like the 26th and 35th who would love help to turn their areas solid blue as well. So, please consider doing work in our neighboring LDs along with supporting ours.

Have a good rest of your week,

Val

Reminder:

Please bring donations of food and money to our next LD meeting.. We will be continuing to do this at our meetings. Our neighbors and food banks need our help to provide for themselves and others.

See you on Thursday, July 30 at the Poulsbo downstairs meeting room. (The room was not available during our normal meeting that would have been the 23rd.) The schmoozing starts at 6:30 pm with the meeting starting at 7:00 pm. Yes, there will be pizza😊
